Integrate the mabl MCP with Atlassian Rovo

When working on a project, sometimes details can get lost in translation as you move between tools. To bridge the gap between project and quality workflows, you can integrate the mabl MCP into an Atlassian Rovo agent. Use a mabl Rovo agent query project and quality data from a single location and incorporate mabl actions into your custom processes and automations in Jira:

• Turn mabl test failures into actionable Jira tickets with root cause analysis and remediation steps
• Cross-reference Jira ticket data with mabl test metadata to identify features lacking test coverage
• Translate natural language requirements from Jira or Confluence directly into new mabl tests

This article explains how to set up and start using the mabl MCP with an Atlassian Rovo agent.

Prerequisites

To integrate the mabl MCP with Atlassian Rovo, you will need:

• A mabl account with access to the workspace you want to connect
• An Atlassian Cloud instance with Rovo enabled
• The appropriate Atlassian permissions for each part of the setup:

Task	Required permissions
Adding the mabl MCP server	Organization admin in Atlassian
Creating a Rovo agent	Any user by default, but your organization may have stricter settings

If you can’t access the pages or buttons described in this article, check with your Atlassian organization admin about your permissions.

Add the mabl MCP server

Before adding mabl MCP skills to Rovo, an organization admin needs to add the mabl MCP server to your Atlassian site. Atlassian’s documentation covers the general process for adding an external MCP server. For a detailed walkthrough in the Atlassian UI, see the following section.

When you add an external MCP server, use these values:

Setting	Value
Server type	Custom MCP server
URL	https://mcp.mabl.com/mcp
Name	mabl

After authenticating, authorize the “Atlassian Integrations Client” to connect to mabl. Once the MCP server is connected, you can manage which mabl MCP tools are available to your organization from the Tool settings tab on the mabl app details page.

• To automatically give Rovo access to new mabl MCP tools as they’re released, toggle on Enable new MCP tools.
• To restrict access to specific tools, disable them individually. For example, if you don’t want users creating mabl tests from Atlassian, leave the create_mabl_test_cloud tool disabled.

Go to admin.atlassian.com. If you have multiple organizations, select the one where you want to add the mabl MCP. In the sidebar, expand Apps, then expand Sites and select the name of your site.

In Site settings, select Connected apps from the sidebar. Click the dropdown beside Explore apps and select Add external MCP server.

After agreeing to the disclaimers, select Custom MCP server. Enter the mabl MCP URL and name:

• mabl

Authenticate the server, authorize the “Atlassian Integrations Client”, and sign in to your mabl account if prompted.

After authenticating, you’ll be redirected to the mabl MCP app details page in Connected apps.

Troubleshooting

We are aware of instances where Atlassian successfully installs the mabl MCP but fails to authenticate it. If you receive an error message while authenticating the mabl MCP, try again from the Connected apps page in Site settings:

1. Search for the name you used when configuring the mabl MCP (e.g. “mabl”).
2. View app details.
3. Click on the button to authenticate.

Create a Rovo agent with mabl skills

With the mabl MCP server connected, you can create a Rovo agent that uses mabl MCP tools as skills. Atlassian’s documentation covers the general process for creating a Rovo agent. See the following section for a detailed walkthrough.

Use the following values as a starting point for configuring your agent. Customize the instructions and conversation starters as needed to match your team’s workflow:

Name: mabl agent
Description: Agent for querying mabl test data and performing mabl actions
Instructions:

1. Assist with creating tests, retrieving results, and explaining statuses using mabl MCP tools.
2. Always confirm before running or creating tests.
3. Provide brief explanations only when needed; avoid verbosity.
4. Maintain a formal, concise tone.

Conversation starters:

• Create a mabl test
• Create test results for this issue
• Get current test details

When reviewing your agent draft, add the mabl MCP as a skill. Select mabl under MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, then choose which tools your agent should have access to. To include all available tools and any future tools as they’re released, check Add all existing and future mabl tools.

Click Activate to finish creating your agent.

From any Jira or Confluence page, click Ask Rovo or open the Rovo AI chat. In the Rovo chat panel, expand the agent menu. Click the plus sign to create a new agent.

Fill in the agent name, description, instructions, and conversation starters. For suggestions, see the values mentioned above.

When you review the agent draft, click on the Default scenario and add skills:

Select mabl under the MCP section in the sidebar and choose which mabl tools to include.

Click Activate to create the agent.

Start using the agent

After creating a Rovo agent with mabl skills, you can start using it! To start using the agent, open a Rovo Chat and select the mabl agent from the agent picker.
